IELTS Writing task 2 (an essay) 2017

Many people think that every individual is responsible for their own healthy lifestyle, others believe that governments should take care of it. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Writing Model Answer 1:

As people have paid taxes to the government, it is believed that they should be provided with free healthcare and qualified education. However, others disagree with the statement, as they think that each individual should be responsible for his or her own health and education. The following essay will discuss both views in details.

On the one hand, many people believe that it is the government's responsibility to provide standard health care and decent education to their people. As people have paid income taxes, property taxes, value added taxes and other kinds of fees to the government, these funds should also be beneficial for the people as well. Some portions of the budget should be allocated to fund medical activities and educational programs. Having a lot of educated and healthy residents brings many benefits for the government, as there are a lot of skill and productive labours in the country who would develop the country's economic sector.

On the other hand, some people believe that health and education is a personal matter as it is the responsibility of each individual to maintain own their health and education. They disagree if education and healthcare should be funded from the taxes. They think that it is unfair because some people might be working hard and paid a large amount of taxes, but others might be indolent or jobless and get the same benefits from the government. Therefore they believe that healthcare and education should be standalone institutions, and each people should pay for getting a good education and maintaining their own health.

In conclusion, to a certain point, I would agree that it is the government's task to provide education and healthcare for their people, as some poor people might not be able to get a good education and decent healthcare. However, although these services might be provided by the government for free, each individual's must be responsible for their own education and healthcare, as these services are funded by taxes that are paid by the public.

Writing Model Answer 2:

In today's world, healthcare and education are two most important parts of people's life. Further, without proper education and sufficient health care system, a country can’t develop. However, the government has the responsible to create a healthy nation. Personally, I believe that the government should provide basic needs to create a healthy life and an educated nation independently.

Everyone prefer to have a fascinating life, but we cannot do whatever we want. Therefore, we have sacrificed some, such as drugs, tobacco, alcohol, and junk foods etc. for a healthy life. In the present days, people are busy with their day to day work. As a result majority of them are not having balanced diets and some of them take fast food or junk food. They do not concern health and also it will cause many diseases in future. For example, obesity, diabetes etc Further, from the young age everyone should concern about their health. Especially people not only should think about the physical health but also consider the mental health.

That is why the government should provide better health care and education for all citizens. The government is created by the taxes from valuable workforces of their country. Therefore, the government has the responsibility to offer them free health care facilities, heath education programme: such as healthy diet, clinics or hospitals for free medicine, etc. Further, the government can use social media to distribute health and education programme. Because nowadays, the majority of people are connected in social media. For example facebook, twitter etc. In addition, the government should implement such a law in order to increase a balanced lifestyle. For instance, due to the overpopulation of China, they have limited only one child for one family.

In conclusion, when I consider all given points it is clear that only the government cannot make a healthy nation. Therefore, individuals should have concerns to prevent future health issues. However, the government should enforce such a law in order to increase our standard of lifestyle and also provide basic needs to the people who are expected from the government. In fact, in my opinion, the government and individuals are both responsible for building a healthy nation.

IELTS Cue Card 2017

Describe an incident from history that has influenced you. Please say

– Where and when did it happen?

– How did you hear about this incident?

– How did this influence you?

Speaking Cue Card Model Answer:

The funny incident that I remember happened was almost 2-3 years ago that I would like to describe.

That time I was a student in a university and I was in my 7th semester. We had a group assignment and to collect data we went to some libraries after our class. In the evening, I found that my group members are complaining that they are hungry and they need to have some foods.

I found them entering in a restaurant and I went with them. One of my classmates ordered some foods directly to the waiter without looking at the menu and after we are done with our foods, I noticed that one of the group mates is asking the group leader to pay the bill. The group leader was astonished as he had not offered the meal and said that he did not have the money to pay the bill. I asked the waiter to bring the bill and we were thundered to look at the amount. It was much higher than the usual price. Though we were bit worried, but we started laughing and enjoying the whole thing. One of the classmates offered to collect all of our money and then pay the bill. We looked at our wallets, pockets & bags and collected the whole amount. There were so many changes and coins there that we had to calculate 2-3 times. But to our surprise, the total amount is still not sufficient to pay the bill.

We started laughing and I proposed to two of the groupmates to give their cell phones and wrist watched as the alternatives of the bill. These two group mates got serious and were protesting that these would be an insane idea. Rest of us started enjoying their reaction as we found that they have actually taken this seriously. One of your group mates proposed that we should pay the amount we have with us and ask the manager of the hotel to allow us time to pay the rest of the amount. I told them that manager would not allow that and would call the police! We enjoyed the event, the dubious looks on some of your classmates and the fact that 2-3 of them have taken the whole thing very seriously and are actually got anxious.

We stayed there for about 1 hours and notices that people around us were giving surprising looks as we something very funny and interesting is going on among us. One of my group mates' house was nearby and he proposed that he would go home and bring the money and in the meantime, we would stay there until he arrives. We agreed and waited for him another20 minutes or so. In the meantime, one of the boys told that the classmates who left won’t come back! We laughed at the idea and acted as if it's going to happen for real. After our classmates returned from home, he paid the bill (with some tips as well!) and then we left the restaurant.

We then left for our home and I took a taxi and paid the taxi fare from my home. I told the story to other classmates next day and they found it very funny and interesting as well. This event became famous in our class and we often mentioned the funny things happened that day among us.

Tips for answering this cue card topic:

Following are some of the funny incidence that you can talk about:

1. Attending in a party of total strangers.

2. Reaching to someone’s house by mistake.

3. Travelling in a train without a ticket.

5. Making someone a fool and joking.

6. Finding a friend in a date.

7. Falling down from the chair.

8. Sending a personal email/ SMS/ letter to a wrong address.

9. Receiving a funny advice from someone.

This cue card topic demands you to talk about a funny incidence. Start your speaking by saying what the funny event was and when it happened. Where you were then and what the funny part of this event should come next. Since there is a question that asks you to talk about the things that you remember most about this funny event, you should describe the most memorable part of this event.

Then talk about the persons who were with you in this funny event and what they did. Also, mention your reaction and feeling about the whole event. To make the event a really funny one, you need to present it in a way so that the examiner gets the impression that it was really a funny event. Finally, say that you have witnessed many incidents and event that were very funny but particularly this event was one of the funniest events in your life and you still remember it clearly. Mention that you have told this event to many people and friends and they find it funny as well. Dr.Arian Karimi IELTS Speaking : The 2nd Step (Get to Know the Exam)

In fact, there are 3 sections in the IELTS Speaking part:

The first section is an interview during which the examiner asks you very general questions to give you the chance to talk about yourself.

In the second section you are required to talk on a subject for between 1-2 minutes.

In the third and final section the examiner will ask you questions on the topic from section 2.

some notes :

The Speaking test is identical for both the Academic and the General exam.

The Speaking test is recorded.

The test lasts between 11-14 minutes.

You do the test on your own.

During the Section 1 'interview' the examiner will ask you simple 'getting-to-know' you questions.

In the Section 2 'long turn' you are required to speak for between 1-2 minutes on your own. The examiner will give you a card with the instructions for your talk. At the end of your talk the examiner will ask you a question or two about the topic.

You are given 1 minute to prepare what you are going to say and you can make notes.

During the Section 3 'discussion' the examiner will ask you questions on the same topic you talked about in Section 2.

The examiner will not explain the meaning of words or phrases in Section 1 or 2. However, because Section 3 is designed to be a discussion between you and the examiner, you are able to ask for an explanation.

The examiner is not permitted to discuss the test with you.

Rhythmic IELTS

This part offers a clear explanation of how to view each part of the Speaking exam.

How does the IELTS Speaking exam relate to real-life situations?

The IELTS Speaking test has its own special rhythm and it helps to respect that rhythm. That is, the test gets harder as it goes along and that each part of the test asks you to speak in a different way. One way to think about this is to see how each part of the test reflects a different social occasion. The general idea is that you can use the everyday speaking skills you have in your own language to help you in the exam – it’s not really the case that you need lots of “exam” skills.

Part 1 – small talk

– who are you?

This is the easy part. Small talk is what we do at social occasions to be polite. You meet someone new and you chat to them. The idea is that they want to know a little bit about you to see if you are their sort of person. Say too little is rude, say too much is just boring. It may help to think of the examiner as someone you want to start a relationship with!

Exam tip: Don’t try and do too much. The examiner has lots of questions to ask you here (around 12), and the questions are meant to be simple. The hard questions come later, save your energy for them in part 3.

Preparation tip: Learn to make some eye contact. This is difficult for some candidates. Very nearly 100% of the most confident speakers I know make eye contact and this is one part of the test where you should be confident.

Part 2 – the get together – do you remember the time…?

You get 1 minute’s thinking time and need to speak for 2 minutes .You are now out with a friend, someone you know quite well, and you are talking together about stuff – things from your life. If you were in the UK, this would happen in a pub. You sit together and because you know each other quite well, you don’t need to talk all the time, you sit silently for a bit and then you start telling stories. This cue card is really just asking you to tell a story from your life:

Describe a meal you remember. You should say:

    what the different dishes were
    where the meal was
who you shared the meal with

and say why you remember that meal.

Exam tip: How do you tell a good story? Some people find this harder than others. Detail is the answer. What detail do you need? As ever with IELTS, the clue is in the question: the cue card tells you what details to use with the who/when/where/what questions. Be smart and use the cue card to help you.

Preparation tip: By all means find some practice cue cards and see what sort of topics you may need to talk about. My best suggestion though is to look through the pictures on your camera roll. What you will see there are the ideas you need to use – people, things and events in your life – you are always talking personally in this part of the test.

Part 3 – the interview – are you good enough?

It seems the hardest part of the IELTS. Unlike part 1, the questions are thinking questions and that means you need to think and speak at the same time – tough. Unlike part 2, you get no thinking time, but the good news is that you’ve had 10 minutes to warm up.

The test format is very similar to a standard interview. Here are some questions to see if you “think on your feet” in English. You should already be prepared because the questions follow the topic of part 2, but this is the one area of the test that you may need to use speaking strategic competence.

Exam tip: As the one who has done lots of oral examining (not IELTS), I can tell you the best strategy is answering the question completely, but surprisingly almost no one do it. Moreover, adding the phrases like “I don’t know” and “I’m not sure” can be the most intelligent way to expand  your ideas appropriately.

The last one but not the least: You do need to dicover a web site that can help you in your way with helpful strategies. If you are reading this page, you are already here!!!

Is it wriong to ask the examiner for more explaination of a word which I don’t understand completely?

In order to make the exam fair for everyone the examiner works from a script during Part 1 and 2.

The examiner will repeat the question for you in Part 1 and will try to make the instructions clear in Part 2. However, it is not common for the examiner to explain the meaning of words or expressions. In Part 3, however, the idea is to have more of a free-flowing discussion about the topic and you will be allowed to ask for clarification in this section.

Useful expressions to ask for making the subject more clear:

Sorry, could you repeat that?

Could you say that again?

when you understand, but need the confirmation try the followings:

Are you asking whether …

Do you mean …
